Philadelphia – Drexel Field Hockey lost 4-1 to Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association game played at Buckley Field. The Pride were led by Charlia Warner's three goals as they improved to 7-4 (2-1 CAA) on the season. Drexel fell to 6-5 (0-3 CAA).
Warner found the back of the net twice in the first half as she received excellent passes in the middle of the cage. At 3:50 of the game, Warner collected a pass from Doni-Melissa Jantsen and beat Drexel goalie Colleen McAndrew (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom). With less than ten minutes to play in the first stanza, Warner again gathered a pass in the middle, this time from Pemba Ramdoo. Warner again scored as Ramdoo tallied her team-leading fourth assist of the season. Despite being ahead 2-0 at halftime, Drexel outshot Hofstra, 10-3 in the opening 35 minutes and generated three penalty corners to the Pride's two. For the game, Drexel outshot Hofstra, 18-10, and held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.
After intermission, Leslie DeSimone scored on a penalty corner at 54:05 to increase Hofstra's lead to 3-0. Drexel answered less than three minutes later when Emily Horvat (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) corralled a Jennifer Bolger (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) pass at the right corner of the cage and fired a shot past Hofstra goalie Jennifer Cowperthwait to put the Dragons on the board. Drexel increased its offensive pressure and generated some good opportunities another goal. Amanda Wachter (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) found herself on a breakaway with only Cowperthwait to beat, but the Pride goalie charged out to break up the play. Warner would ice the game with her third goal, this time on a rebound as Hofstra went on to win, 4-1.
Drexel's Colleen McAndrew finished with five saves in goal while Cowperthwait stopped eight.
The Dragons will travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Northeastern in another Colonial Athletic Association match-up on Friday, Oct. 6. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
